Community Construction & Neighbor Etiquette: Rebuilding Together with Respect
Sunset Mesa is well into its rebuilding process, and the energy of renewal is palpable. According to the county’s tracking maps (Eaton–Palisades Detailed Recovery Map, Unincorporated Areas), we now have nearly 50 homes that have officially started construction—whether they are in active framing, completing grading, or laying down initial foundations. Seeing these physical milestones after the devastating fire is incredibly heartening, and it represents a massive step forward for our community of 475 homes.
However, with dozens of active job sites running simultaneously, our streets have become busier than ever. We have an influx of general contractors, subcontractors, and workers navigating our roads daily. Because of this intense activity, it is absolutely critical that we all follow the rules and maintain a high standard of neighborhood etiquette.
We must remember that Sunset Mesa is not just a construction zone; it is a living, breathing neighborhood. Many of our residents are actively living in their homes right through this massive rebuilding phase. To ensure our neighborhood remains safe, clean, and livable for everyone during this transition, we are asking all homeowners who are rebuilding to have a direct, serious conversation with their general contractors regarding the following rules:
No Littering or Trash Dumping: Please make sure your contractor is clearly and firmly advised not to allow their employees, subcontractors, or delivery drivers to leave garbage on the sidewalks, streets, or adjacent lots. Lunch wrappers, plastic bottles, and construction debris must be properly disposed of in designated on-site bins. Let's keep our Mesa beautiful.
Strict Adherence to Speed Limits: Construction trucks, crew vehicles, and utility vans must strictly keep to the neighborhood speed limits. Our streets are narrow, visibility around corners can be limited, and children, pets, and residents are out daily. Speeding will not be tolerated.
Keep Sidewalks and Streets Clear: Homeowners must ensure their contractors keep public sidewalks completely clear. Sidewalks should not be used to stage building materials, park crew vehicles, or pile debris. Our residents need to be able to safely walk their dogs, push strollers, and stroll through the neighborhood without being forced to step into active traffic lanes.
A rebuilding process of this scale is a team effort. We must all work together during this period to make the construction process as smooth and positive as possible for everyone involved. Your cooperation in managing your job site and proactively communicating these expectations to your build teams makes a massive difference in preserving the safety and peace of mind of your neighbors.
Thank you for your continued resilience, partnership, and dedication to keeping Sunset Mesa a wonderful place to live, both during construction and for the many years to come.
