A Sunny Afternoon of Community & Connection: Recapping our Annual Meeting

On Sunday, June 28, Sunset Mesa homeowners gathered for our highly anticipated SMPOA Annual Meeting. This year, the event was graciously hosted at the beautiful home of Gary Greene, offering the perfect backdrop of stunning ocean views and spectacular summer weather.

It was a perfect Sunset Mesa day!

The energy was incredibly positive as neighbors reconnected, shared stories, and enjoyed a delicious spread of tasty empanadas. With over 85 homeowners in attendance, the large turnout was a powerful testament to the resilience, strength, and close-knit spirit of our 475-home community.

Key Updates from SMPOA President Jonathan Markiles

Once everyone settled in, SMPOA President Jonathan Markiles took the floor to deliver a comprehensive community presentation. He highlighted the major milestones we've reached and outlined the path ahead as we navigate this historic rebuilding phase:

  • The Rebuilding Milestones: We celebrated the incredible progress of our neighborhood, with over 140 homes approved by the Architectural Committee and nearly 50 homes officially starting construction and many more in the active pipeline.

  • The Upcoming CC&R Re-vote: Jonathan outlined the dates and logistics for the crucial upcoming CC&R re-vote scheduled for later this Summer. He explained the importance of these amendments in protecting our neighborhood's future, safeguarding ocean views, and simplifying future voting procedures.

  • Safety & Fire Mitigation: We discussed active fuel modification efforts, the brush clearance program in Topanga State Park, and how we can work together to keep construction zones safe, clean, and respectful for current residents.

Engaging Q&A Session

Following the presentation, we opened up the floor for a lively and highly productive Q&A session. Neighbors had the opportunity to ask questions, share insights, and discuss everything from local construction etiquette to architectural committee guidelines. It was a fantastic forum for transparent, neighborly dialogue, ensuring that everyone’s voice was heard as we rebuild Sunset Mesa together.

A Heartfelt Thank You

An event of this scale doesn't happen without a team effort. A huge thank you goes out to Gary Greene for opening up his home and being such a fantastic host for the afternoon. We also want to thank every single neighbor who took the time to show up, ask questions, and contribute to the future of our neighborhood.

If you missed the meeting or have any follow-up questions about the upcoming CC&R vote or the general rebuilding process, please don't hesitate to reach out to the board.

Here's to a strong, united, and beautiful year ahead!
