Keeping Sunset Mesa Safe
The SMPOA Board remains dedicated to the goal of keeping Sunset Mesa one of the safest communities in Southern California. However, as circumstances regarding our neighborhood security change, it is important for every resident to understand the role each homeowner plays in that process.
The Board’s Role
Following the conclusion of the county-funded Securitas patrols, the SMPOA Board has been working to identify sustainable safety options for the neighborhood. However, the Association cannot contract or pay for private security patrols on behalf of the entire community.
The Board’s role is primarily to act as a coordinator—monitoring available options, tracking coverage levels, and communicating with providers like ADT to ensure the community has access to the best information possible.
Individual Responsibility and Dedicated Coverage
In a community like ours, the level of professional security presence is directly determined by the collective participation of individual homeowners. Many residents feel individual home security measures, including subscribing to a private patrol service a necessary supplement.
Currently, about 65 Sunset Mesa homes are active ADT customers. For those interested in a more robust neighborhood presence, ADT has outlined the following participation milestones required to fund dedicated resources:
Dedicated Neighborhood Vehicle: Requires approximately 150 individual subscribers.
24-Hour Dedicated Coverage: Requires approximately 440 individual subscribers.
What is provided by ADT
For homeowners who choose to take this step for their own property, ADT's current patrol service includes the following:
Professional Response: Coverage for alarm activations and resident-reported suspicious activity.
Vacation Support: 45 days of "vacation watch" per year, including the relocation of mail, papers, and empty trash bins.
Safety Escorts: Up to 12 annual escorts to ensure you enter or exit your home safely.
Neighborhood Presence: Inclusion in random property patrols.
A Note on Current Rates
Residents who are considering these services should be aware that ADT’s monthly rate is currently $75 but is scheduled to increase to $99 for those who sign up after January 1st. If you wish to lock in the lower rate, we encourage you to contact their representative, Alan Parrish, at 424-271-8251 or ACParrish@adt.com before the end of December.
Ultimately, the security of Sunset Mesa is a collaborative effort. We thank you for your continued diligence in looking out for one another and taking the necessary steps to protect your own home.
