Announcing Our New Senior Advocate

We are thrilled to announce the creation of a new volunteer role within our community: the Senior Advocate. This position was developed to ensure that all Sunset Mesa residents, especially those who may not be comfortable with modern digital tools, remain fully supported and connected.

We want to extend a special thank you to Sessely McDaniel for her leadership in helping create this role and for being the first to step up and serve.

Supporting Our Longtime Residents

Many of our homeowners are elderly and may be original residents or descendants of the very first families to live in the Mesa. Like many of us, these neighbors have navigated the immense trauma of last year’s disaster, with some losing their homes and being forced to relocate. Read more.

As the Sunset Mesa Property Owners Association (SMPOA) moves more operations online, we recognize that not everyone possesses the same technical skills or comfort level with digital platforms. The Senior Advocate is here to ensure that no one is disadvantaged by these transitions.

How the Senior Advocate Can Help

Sessely is available to assist any resident who is uncomfortable using PayHOA or other digital tools. Her support includes:

  • Managing PayHOA: Updating personal information and navigating PayHOA accounts and submissions on behalf of residents who request assistance.

  • Staying Informed: Ensuring elderly residents that don’t use email are kept in the loop with all important community communications.

  • General Assistance: Providing help with any other issues related to the SMPOA.

About Sessely McDaniel

Sessely is a deeply involved member of our community who is a registered nurse with a masters degree in counseling. She cares greatly for the wellbeing of our residents. While she and her husband, Board Member Chris Plummer, are temporarily living in Venice while they rebuild, she remains dedicated to the Mesa. You may also recognize Sessily’s artistic touch from the Jan 7 memorial get-together, where she organized the rock painting activity.
